Drapery on human anatomy

The focus of these few studies is drapery on human figures. One is of the model holding some translucent fabric the other is of some fabric draped over an arm.

The drapery on the first piece works well; you can see the folds of the drapery on both the fabric the model is holding and the fabric on the table. You can also tell what the fabric is like, you can tell the fabric over the knee is translucent. On the second piece it was done using natural lighting, this caused the problem of it being a very dark sketch. What it shows is my arm with a scarf draped over it. The scarf is dark grey on one side and light grey on the other side. The creases in the fabric look good which allows the viewer to tell that they are actual creases. My main concern is that the overall image is too dark and that i should have set up some artificial light

Natural forms in detail (still life)

Time taken approximately 20 mins

Time taken approximately 25 mins

This Session was about drawing natural items in high detail. I Used pencil for this because i wanted to have a lot of control of the the fine details in my image which charcoal and pastels don't give me. these 2 images are just specific parts of an overall arrangement of flowers and a pineapple.

Out of the 2 images i believe the flowers work better than the pineapple. The shape of the pineapple doesn't quite look correct, the shading could have been done better as it doesn't show the colour variation as much as it should do between the pineapple its self and the plate. The flowers however look good the shading is well done and you can tell were everything is going in the image, the only problem is that it looks like its floating on the page

Transparent surfaces, refraction and distortion (still life)

Time taken approximately 15 mins

Time take approximately 25 mins

This session focused on human made items with a clear or reflective surface. I used pencil  for this because i wanted to have a good amount of control over what i was doing than i would get from other types of media.

I am pleased with both the 2 images because you can clearly see the reflections and shadows very well. The second image of the brass vase I believe works the best you can see very clearly what the reflection is and the shading on it works as well which allows you to tell that its a shiny object.
